CAF says no word from Egyptian authorities on referring Hayatou to public prosecution

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) says it has not received official notice on the decision of Egypt's Competition Authority to refer the Cameroonian president of CAF Issa Hayatou to public prosecution for violating competition regulations, CAF technical department head Mohamed Shatta told Al-Ahram newspaper on Thursday.
Shatta said that if and when the CAF receives such notice it will refer Hayatou's case to the CAF legal committee.
On Wednesday, the Competition Authority referred Hayatou to public prosecution on charges of abusing his position and violating broadcast regulations.
The authority said in a statement posted on its website that Hayatou abused his position to grant Lagardère Sports group broadcasting rights for African football competitions by direct order signing and without bidding from 2017 to 2028.
The CAF is the administrative body for African football competitions and controls the prizes, finances, regulations and media rights for those competitions.
The body was founded in 1957 in Khartoum by the Egyptian, Ethiopian and Sudanese football associations. Its current headquarters are based in Cairo.
