Zamalek have filed a complaint with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) against understudy goalkeeper Mahmoud Gennesh due to his unpermitted absence from training. Gennesh has missed training since withdrawing from Zamalek's squad for an Egyptian Premier League game against Wadi Degla last week after learning that Ahmed El-Shennawi, Zamalek's first-choice keeper, would start the match. Despite initially playing down the incident, Zamalek later said they would not tolerate such behavior. Gennesh played several games as a regular starter after El-Shennawi, an Egyptian international, committed some costly mistakes in Zamalek's African Champions League campaign and was partly blamed for a stunning 3-0 reverse at eventual winners Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the final. With Gennesh impressing between the sticks, he apparently did not swallow what appeared to be a rotation policy by the club in recent games so that both would have a chance to play. El-Shennawi will also start when Zamalek face Dakhleya in the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday.
