Holders Ahly made it five straight wins with an easy 3-0 victory over Sharqeya to maintain their position on top of the Egyptian Premier League table on Wednesday. An early goal from in-form winger Walid Soliman, a second-half volley from right-back Ahmed Fathi following a superb three-man move and a late curler by substitute Moemen Zakareya allowed Ahly to go four points clear of second-placed and surprise package Maqassa, who have a game in hand. Struggling Sharqeya remain second from bottom on seven points from 11 games. Several summer arrivals made rare starts for Ahly, including striker Marwan Mohsen, who has been struggling with injury problems since joining from Ismaily, and winger Mido Gaber who moved from Maqassa. Veteran striker Emad Meteb made his first league appearance in months after coming on as a late substitute, replacing Mohsen with 10 minutes remaining. It took Ahly 10 minutes to score when Soliman muscled his way into the area, turned and rolled the ball into the bottom corner with his left foot despite being under pressure from a defender. Gaber had a chance to double their lead on 29 minutes when a poor save from the keeper fell into his path but he fired wide with the goal gaping. Mohsen, who was an otherwise peripheral figure, also had a shot that was cleared off the line by a defender. Ahly kept a tight grip on the game after the break and went 2-0 up four minutes past the hour mark when Fathi volleyed home from inside the area after being released with a brilliant chipped pass from Egypt playmaker Abdallah El-Said. Zakareya, who replaced Soliman, completed the rout in the 86th minute with a beautiful curler from inside the area that went into the top corner of the net.
