A special night at Osiris art space next Thursday will see a silent film adaption of Dante's Inferno set to live music by Nar Project. L'Inferno, a 1911 Italian film directed by Giuseppe de Liguoro, Adolfo Padovan and Francesco Bertolini, is loosely adapted from the first part of the Italian poet's The Divine Comedy, and was the first full-length Italian feature film ever to be made. The film's depictions of hell closely follow those found in the engravings of French illustrator Gustave Doré for a 19th century edition of The Divine Comedy. Nar Project's music will accompany the screenings. The band performs European traditional and folk music as well as oriental music using the oud, buzuk and rababa, alongside the guitar, percussion and violin. Band members include Ahmed El-Sayed, Baher Osama, Amr Darwish and Dimitry Rusi. Earlier this year, Oriris held a similar night of music and film, screening Charlie Chaplin's The Kid, accompanied by Mohamed Nagla playing live piano. Tickets for Thursday's event must be purchased before 15 November.
