Appeals Court adjourns to 26 December proceeding demanding recusal of Mubarak trial judge Cairo's Appeals Court adjourns to 26 December proceedings aiming to replace the judge presiding over the trial of Hosni Mubarak
Cairo's Appeals Court decided Saturday to adjourn to 26 December proceedings on replacing the judge presiding over the trial of toppled president Hosni Mubarak. Mubarak is accused of abuse of power as president to accumulate illegal profits, and also of ordering the killing of peaceful protesters during the January 25 Revolution. After his trial got underway, lawyers representing families of victims of the January revolution filed a motion at the Appeals Court calling for Judge Ahmed Refaat to be replaced. The proceeding was filed after they were prevented from attending the session that saw Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi testify, a move they said was illegal. Chief of Staff Sami Anan should also give his testimony in Mubarak's trial, but this is currently on hold. Mubarak's sons, Alaa and Gamal, are also facing similar charges, as are notorious ex-Interior Minister Habib El-Adly and six of his assistants. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/24817.aspx
