Egypt to allow 75,000 spectators in World Cup qualifier against Ghana
Published in Ahram Online on 24 - 10 - 2016

Egypt's sports minister Khaled Abdel-Aziz has announced that 75 thousand spectators will be allowed to attend the Egypt-Ghana World Cup qualifier on 13 November in Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium.
"Egypt will play Ghana in 20 days; 75 thousand will be allowed to attend," Abdel-Aziz stated on his twitter account Monday, wishing a win for Egypt.
The statement came one day after approximately 70 thousand attended the African Champions League second leg final in the same coastal arena, in which Zamalek beat South Africa's Sundowns 1-0 but lost the title with a 3-1 aggregate result.
"Egyptian sports lost a tournament but won something new worthy of respect," the minister said, praising the Zamalek fans and the organization of the game.
Security concerns dominated the Egyptian stands for over four years due to a series of bloody security failures that included deaths in two unforgettable tragedies: one in Port Said stadium in 2012 and another in Cairo's Air Defense (AKA 30 June) two years later.
In their bid to reach their first World Cup since 1990, Egypt, led by Hector Cuper, won against Congo 2-1 n Brazzaville in the first round of the group stage.
The Pharaohs are currently leading Group E with three points, two ahead of main challengers Ghana and minnows Uganda, who played out a 0-0 draw in Tamale.
