9th Panorama of the European Film launches with a music night at Zigzag
Published in Ahram Online on 17 - 10 - 2016

Berlin-based DJ Habibi Funk will perform at Zigzag in Downtown Cairo on Friday, as part of a launch party for the 9th Panorama of the European Film which kicks off on 2 November.
Habibi Funk is the stage name of music producer Jannis Sturtz of the German label Jakarta Records.
His energetic music is born out of his trips across the Arab world, mixing Arabic disco from the 60s, 70s and 80s from Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, and Algeria. He performs music live from his vinyl collection and cassette tapes.
The concert introduces one of two new sections introduced to this year's edition of Panorama, namely Urban Lens: Spotlight on Berlin.
Urban Lens will feature a selection of films “in which the city acts as both the medium and the subject. For this section's first edition, the city of Berlin will be highlighted through five pivotal films across various genres," reads a recent press release by Panorama.
Those with tickets for the concert will also get access to one free morning screening during the upcoming Panorama.
The 9th Panorama of the European Film runs this year between 2 and 12 November, and will bring a selection of the latest critically acclaimed and award-winning international films to Egypt's screening venues.
Panorama was launched in 2004 by co-manager of Misr International Films, Marianne Khoury.
It was the seed leading to the birth of Zawya, the art-house initiative launched by MIF in 2014 that screens an alternative selection of films all year round, and also is responsible for organising the Panorama.
Building on past years' successful editions, the Panorama stands as a main pillar in Egypt's contemporary cinematic culture, bringing to Egyptian screens important and award-winning films.
The Panorama of the European Film is co-funded by the European Union and is organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and the Egyptian Film Centre.
Programme:
Friday 21 October
9pm: Warm up by NNR
11pm: Habibi Funk (Jakarta Records)
Zigzag, 6 Kasr El-Nil Street, Downtown Cairo
