Maqassa, Talae El-Geish and Alexandria's Ittihad were off to winning starts in their 2016-17 Egyptian league camapaign. Ex-Ahly striker Ahmed Abdel-Zaher and on-loan forward Ahmed El-Sheikh were on target as Maqassa beat newly-promoted side Tanta 3-0 at Fayoum Stadium. Abdel-Zaher opened the scoring 11 minutes into the first half before El-Sheikh made it two 22 minutes later as the home side headed into the dressing rooms with a two-goal lead. Defender Assem Said then completed the rout 12 minutes from time to give the Fayoum-based outfit, who finished ninth last season, their first win. Another side to get off to a winning start was Alexandria's Ittihad, registering a 3-1 home win over Arab Contractors at Borg El-Arab Stadium. Zambian international Felix Katongo gave Ittihad the lead in the 24th minute before ex-Zamalek and Ismaily frontman Ahmed Ali restored parity just two minutes after the break. Mohamed Abdel-Fadil then restored Ittihad's advantage in the 63rd minute as substitute Ahmed El-Sheikh made sure of victory 11 minutes from time. Elsewhere, Talae El-Geish claimed a 2-1 home victory over Hossam Hassan's Masry, with another ex-Zamalek man in playmaker Ahmed Eid giving the military side a 12th-minute lead. Mohamed Ashraf then made it two in the 40th minute before former Zamalek full-back Ahmed Samir pulling one back for Masry nine minutes later as the match ended 2-1. ENPPI are currently topping the league table following their big 4-0 victory over newcomers El-Nasr Taadeen.
