Election candidate registration period extended until 22 October High Commission for Elections allows candidates additional four days to register for elections due to begin in November
The Egyptian High Commission for Elections has decided to extend the candidate registration period for parliamentary (People's Assembly) and upper house (Shura Council) elections until 22 October, 2011. The registration period began on Wednesday 12 October and was due to expire on Tuesday 18 October. A number of political groups and parties had demanded SCAF extend the registration period in order to re-organise themselves, particularly after several electoral blocs and coalitions experienced splits.
