Following concerts in Egypt and Lebanon, oud master Marcel Khalife to perform in Jordan
Published in Ahram Online on 14 - 08 - 2016

Celebrated Lebanese musician and oud master Marcel Khalife is scheduled to deliver a concert on 13 September at the Amman Citadel in Jordan as part of the 2016 Jordan Festival.
This summer has thus far been a vibrant one for Khalife who performed at the Lebanon's Batroun International Festival on 23 July, followed by a mesmeric concert held 29 July as part of this year's Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Summer Festival, and most recently on 31 July in Byblos, Lebanon.
Born in 1950, Marcel Khalife is one of the biggest stars in the Arabic region, equally recognised by large audiences internationally. Composer, singer and oud player, Khalife's music career goes back to 1976 when he launched Al Mayadeen Ensemble performing compositions to poetry of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.
Rebellious in spirit, Khalife is known for many touching compositions whose lyrics express profound sentiments of nationalism and revolution.
The Jordan Festival is organised by Friends of Jordan Festivals, a non-profit organization founded in March 2010, “by a group of men and women, leaders in the private sector; motivated by their love and loyalty to their country, and their passion of the culture and the arts,” according to the organization's official website.
“The NGO aims at promoting Jordan as a cultural destination being the only open air museum in the world, rich in history, rich in heritage and rich in culture.
”
