Art Alert: Marcel, Rami & Bachar Khalife to perform in Cairo and Alexandria
Internationally renowned Lebanese musician Marcel Khalife will perform with his two sons, Rami and Bachar, on 24 and 25 October, in Cairo and Alexandria respectively
Published in Ahram Online on 14 - 10 - 2014

Born in 1950, Marcel Khalife is one of the biggest stars in the Arabic region, equally recognised by large audiences internationally. Composer, singer and oud player, Khalife's music career goes back to 1976 when he launched Al Mayadeen Ensemble performing compositions to poetry of the Palestinian Mahmoud Darwish.
Rebellious in spirit, Khalife is known for many touching compositions whose lyrics express profound sentiments of nationalism and revolution.
It was in 2011 that his music experimentations coupled with equally creative minds represented by his two sons, also musicians, resulted in the formation of a familial artistic collaboration that goes under the name of Marcel, Rami & Bachar Khalife.
The trio becomes an artistic amalgam of Marcel Khalife's musical legacy and modern sounds with Rami performing on piano and electronic synthesizers, accompanied by Bachar on percussion.
When on stage, the three musicians redefine music, at times infusing it with highly energetic beats, at other allowing the audience to contemplate the music and lyrics with Marcel's voice and oud coming to the fore.
The trio, which performs songs and instrumental compositions by Marcel Khalife in addition to those by Rami and Bachar, perform on many renowned stages across the world.
Marcel and Rami are not strangers to Egyptian audiences; both of them visited Egypt during their solo tours. While Marcel performed in Egypt several years ago, his son, Rami Khalife who is also a classical pianist and a Julliard graduate, visited Egypt in May 2014 to perform with the Egyptian Sinfonietta.
Introducing their familial project to Egyptian audiences, this will be the first time for Marcel, Rami & Bachar Khalife to perform together in Cairo and Alexandria. The concert is organised by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's Arts Centre.
