South Africa's Pienaar to sit out of Sierra Leone clash Tottenham's South Africa midfielder Steven Pienaar to miss Bafana's decider against Sierra Leone due to groin injury
South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane excluded Bafana skipper Steven Pienaar from playing in Saturday's scheduled 2012 African Cup qualifier against Sierra Leone after reaching an agreement with Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp, who wants to give the midfielder a chance to recuperate from a groin injury. "It was a joint decision between us and his club, since he is still on the edge after recovering from a groin injury,” Mosimane was quoted as saying by Kickoff magazine. "We would rather let him recuperate so as to have him later on for other matches than to bring him out and have him break down again," the Bafana coach added. South Africa, who are currently second in Group G with eight points - only one point behind leaders Niger - are in a must-win situation against Sierra Leone. They are currently hoping that Niger will struggle against Egypt in Cairo in the group's other match so as to take the lead in the group and secure qualification for the African Cup of Nations.
