Field Marshal Tantawi launches factories in Fayoum Egypt's de factor ruler follows last week's impromptu downtown appearance with a showpiece visit to the provinces
Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, Egypt's de-facto ruler, inaugurated three factories in Fayoum governorate on Sunday, in an activity normally carried out by Egyptian government officials to publicise their achievements. Official sources told Ahram Arabic gate that the visit to the industrial zone in Kom Oshim had no political motives but forms part of the Armed Forces commemoration of the October War of 1973. Launching industrial and commercial projects is an activity traditionally carried out by Egyptian officials, including presidents, ministers and governors, and often used to build public confidence in the government. The ceremony was also attended by General Sami Anan, along with several top rank military officials and the governor of Fayoum. Tantawi was seen in downtown Cairo on Monday night, wearing a civilian suit, raising questions over whether he intends to run for the Egyptian presidency as the army's candidate.
