VIDEO: Esperance crush Mouloudia to close in on semis Tunisian side Esperance move three points clear with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Mouloudia Alger on Saturday
Esperance edged closer to a place in the CAF Champions League semifinal for the second consecutive season after thrashing Algeria's Mouloudia Alger 4-0 on Saturday. Midfielder Mejdi Traoui needed nine minutes to open the scoring with a powerful low shot from the edge of the area before Cameroonian striker Yannick N'Djeng doubled the lead ten minutes later with a superb left-foot volley. N'Djeng added the third on the stroke of halftime when he held off two markers, chested down a long ball and fired a low shot home from a tight angle. He completed his hat-trick on 60 minutes with a close-range effort to give Esperance a comprehensive win. They are now in the driving seat to qualify for the semi-finals of Africa's premier club competition as they top Group B on nine points with one match remaining. Morocco's Wydad Casablanca, who have six points, face Egyptian champions Ahly, who have five, in the other group game on Sunday. Mouloudia lie at the bottom with just two points. Esperance overcame Ahly in last season's semifinal before losing to TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the finale.
