Gaddafi must face justice - France
France says ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi must face justice, albeit in Libya or at the International Criminal Court
Published in Ahram Online on 06 - 09 - 2011

Ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi will have to face justice for all the crimes he has committed in the past 42 years," France's foreign ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said in response to a question on whether France would be satisfied if Gaddafi went into exile.
"With regard to Gaddafi, he is definitely out of the political picture of the new Libya emerging today ... It will be up to the new Libyan authorities to decide about the judicial follow-up ... (whether) in Libya or the Hague, the ICC."
Sources told Reuters earlier on Tuesday that France may have brokered an arrangement between the new Libyan government and Gaddafi after a French military source said he had been told the 69-year old and his son Saif al-Islam might be considering joining a convoy en route to Burkina Faso through Niger.
Burkina Faso, once a French colony and a former recipient of large amounts of Libyan aid, offered Gaddafi exile about two weeks ago but has also recognised the rebel National Transitional Council (NTC) as Libya's government.
Al Arabiya television reported earlier that Gaddafi was not part of the convoy of vehicles that crossed into Niger from Libya on Monday. It cited Niger's foreign minister, Bazoum Mohamed, although no interview was aired.
Valero said he had no information on the convoy or any French mediation on a possible Gaddafi exile.
