European clubs prepare strategy to take on FIFA Around 150 European football clubs have begun a two-day meeting to agree their strategy for getting a better deal from FIFA
European Club Association chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has publicly criticized FIFA President Sepp Blatter, calling for a democratic “revolution” in world football to give clubs more influence. Rummenigge's members believe they must hand over players for national team matches on too many dates. One option to cut FIFA's international calendar is reducing the size of World Cup qualifying groups. ECA members could propose that European countries play in four-team groups instead of six to reach the 2018 World Cup. Clubs also want FIFA to spend World Cup profits insuring the salaries of international players.
