Unsettled El-Saied incurs wrath of Ismaily fans after shirt protest Abdallah El-Saied, already criticized by Ismaily fans for seeking to join bitter rivals Ahly, further infuriates them
Unsettled playmaker Abdallah El-Saied has infuriated Ismaily fans when he abandoned a friendly game on Friday and threw his shirt to the ground. El-Saied, one of the Egyptian Premier League's most sought-after players, was disgruntled after becoming the subject of incessant angry chants from Ismaily's supporters during a low-key friendly against Alexandria-based club Koroum. He consequently stormed out of the pitch in the first half before throwing his shirt to the ground on the touchline to further enrage the die-hard fans, who hurled more insults at him. Ahly, Ismaily's bitter rivals, made no secret of their desire to sign the 26-year-old, who finished as his club's top scorer with eight league goals last season. Ismaily said on their official website on Thursday that El-Saied has turned down the club's offer to extend his deal, which runs out in the summer of 2012. “The attempts of coach Hossam Hassan, football director Ibrahim Hassan and chief executive Abdel-Rahman Anous to persuade El-Saied to sign a new contract were to no avail,” the success-starved club said in a statement. “The player, who refused an offer to earn EGP2.5 million per season, said the club's instability prevents him from prolonging his contract.” New chairman Yehia El-Komy later said that El-Saied will be suspended for an indefinite period. Ismaily are struggling to hold onto their key players due a persistent financial problem which was not solved following the arrival of wealthy businessman Yehia El-Komy. The future of Egypt midfielder Hosni Abd-Rabou also remains under scrutiny, with reports suggesting that he may move to an Arab Gulf club after Zamalek said they were no longer interested in acquiring his services.
