El Shouq to participate in Doha Tribeca Film Festival Will the film be welcomed with the same praise it received at the Cairo International Film Festival?
The third edition of the Doha Tribeca film festival, which will run from 25-29 October, will be hosting a diverse collection of 40 films including the Egyptian, El Shouq, directed by Khaled El Hagar. El Shouq, which takes a bleak tone, relays the story of a family living in an alley in Alexandria. It follows the complex character, Om El Shouq, played by Sawsan Badr. The film has already won the golden pyramid at the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), but this is going to be its first appearance at a festival outside Egypt. The Egyptian lead actress, Sawsan Badr, has also won the award for best actress for her role in the film at the CIFF. The festival will host the world premiere of Black Gold- an epic that takes place in the Arabian Peninsula in the 1930s- by the French director, Jean-Jacques Annaud. Last year, the Egyptian film, Hawi, directed by Ibrahim El Batout won the prize for best Arab film at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival.
