Zidan comes on late as Dortmund lose to Hoffenheim Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan comes on as a late substitute as champions Borussia Dortmund suffer a surprise 1-0 defeat by Hoffenheim on Saturday
Defending champions Borussia Dortmund slumped to a 1-0 loss at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Saturday for their first defeat of the season. Hoffenheim's Bosnian midfielder Sejad Salihovic scored the winner after nine minutes with a superb left-foot free kick. Dortmund, who produced a convincing performance to beat Hamburg 3-1 in the Bundesliga opener, piled on pressure to level the score but failed to apply the finishing touch after creating several goal-scoring opportunities. Egypt striker Zidan, who was linked with a move away from Dortmund this summer before eventually opting to stay put, started on the bench before being introduced in the 74th minute instead of Japanese playmaker Shinji Kagawa. He released fellow substitute Jakub Błaszczykowski with a deft through pass shortly after his introduction but the Polish midfielder blasted the ball over the bar. Zidan made his first appearance this season after he remained on the bench throughout Dortmund's win over Hamburg last week.
