Zamalek's upcoming coach is foreigner, says chairman
Published in Ahram Online on 09 - 02 - 2016

Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour confirmed that a foreign manager will be appointed in the near future following the sacking of Mido in the wake of the 2-0 Cairo derby defeat to Ahly on Tuesday.
Second-half goals from Malick Evouna and Amr Gamal sealed the fate of Mido, who was only appointed in December last year after replacing Brazilian coach Marcos Paqueta at the helm.
"Zamalek will appoint a foreign manager in the near future," Mortada said in a phone-in to NileSport TV.
"The decision to sack Mido was almost taken after the Ismaily defeat; Zamalek have been playing so bad for maybe six or seven games.
"Regarding all the speculation that (ex-Egypt boss) Hassan Shehata will be the upcoming coach, I just can't appoint such a high-profile manager mid-way through the season. It would be unfair.
"Unlike what's been widely rumored that I've been interfering in the management's job, I never intervened at all. I even learned of today's starting line-up from the media.
"In all cases, we will hold an emergency meeting within an hour or so to decide who'll be the upcoming coach."
Mido, who guided Zamalek to the Egypt Cup title in his first stint two seasons ago, has been wielded the axe following a run of four wins, two defeats and a single draw.
Zamalek's displays under the ex-Ajax striker were not particularly convincing, as another lackluster performance against Ahly condemned the Egyptian league champions to their third defeat of the season.
Assistant manager Mohamed Salah will now be Zamalek's interim boss, as he will be taking charge of the upcoming league fixture against Wadi Degla on Sunday.
Zamalek are now in second place with 31 points, seven off leaders Ahly.
