Administrative court rejects appeals against Cairo election results
Published in Ahram Online on 28 - 11 - 2015

Egypt's Administrative Court rejected Saturday all 56 appeals contesting the results of round one of the second phase of parliamentary elections in Cairo.
Phase two of the House of Representatives elections covered 13 governorates including Cairo, home to 6.8 million eligible voters of the total 28.2 million.
According to results announced Wednesday by the Supreme Electoral Commission (SEC), turnout rate was 29.83 percent with 8,412,011 Egyptians casting their vote.
The run-offs of the second phase are scheduled for 30 November to 2 December inside and outside Egypt.
The results were largely inconclusive, with only nine candidates running for individual seats coming out triumphant in the first round of polling.
As for the lists, For the Love of Egypt coalition swept all 60 seats up for grabs in the second phase, meaning that the coalition has secured all 120 seats allocated to the lists system in the legislature.
The administrative court had also rejected the majority of appeals contesting results in phase one, where a court ordered that elections be repeated in four constituencies, two in Alexandria, one in Beheira and one in Beni Suef.
The first phase was generally marked by a low turnout as international and local media outlets noted the general voter apathy, especially among youth.
It covered the 14 governorates of Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, New Valley, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea, Alexandria, Beheira and Matrouh.
The number of eligible voters in the first phase was 27.4 million which saw a turnout rate of 26.56 percent , according to SEC.
