Cairo airport workers suspend protests until Monday
Workers at Cairo International Airport call off a protest that crippled the airport yesterday after receiving assurances that their demands would be swiftly met

Overnight, hundreds of workers, air traffic controllers and navigation traffic personnel at Cairo International Airport protested Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf's proposal to nominate Lotfi Kamal, a former chief-of-staff of the Egyptian Airforce, as minister of civil aviation.
Airport workers want an end to the policy of appointing former military officers to head departments in the ministry. They also want wage parity with EgyptAir workers.
Yesterday, thousands of airport workers cut off for several hours the main highway leading to the airport.Early this morning, the workers decided to suspend their protest until Monday after a long meeting with Air Marshal Reda Hafez, the current commander of the Egyptian Airforce, who promised to meet all protesters' demands in 72 hours.
