Jordan loses $899m from interrupted Egyptian gas supply Repeated attacks on the Sinai gas pipeline have forced Jordanian electricity companies to use costly heavy fuel as an alternative
Jordan electricity companies have lost 637 million dinars (US$899m) from the year's disruption in Egyptian gas supplies, the Kingdom's Minister of Finance announced yesterday. Abu Hamour, in conversation with the Jordanian newspaper, Al-Rai, said that temporary closures of Egypt's Sinai pipeline following repeated attacks have forced Jordanian electricity companies to use costly heavy fuel in place of natural gas. The pipeline which also supplies gas to Israel has been bombed four times since February. The most recent attack was on 12 July.
