Injury-prone Zaki says he will stay at Zamalek
Striker Amr Zaki, plagued by consistent injuries, denies reports suggesting that he could leave Zamalek in the off-season
Published in Ahram Online on 16 - 07 - 2011

On Saturday, striker Amr Zaki rubbished reports indicating that his days at Zamalek are numbered.
The combative frontman's persistent injury problems fuelled reports that Zamalek, who finished runners-up to Egyptian Premier League champions Ahly last season, could offload him this summer.
“I'm determined to remain atZamalek. I love this club and the fans and I have no desire to leave,” the Egyptian international, who was restricted to a handful of appearances last season, said on the club's official website.
“My latest injury is not related to my past knee problems. I'm currently suffering from a pelvic complaint. I will fly to Germany on Sunday morning to receive treatment under the supervision of a German doctor.”
Zaki, whose absence gave former Zamalek coach Hossam Hassan a selection headache last season, made just 11 league appearances, scoring three goals in the process.
The former Wigan Athletic man has hardly regained top form since returning to Zamalek after ending a brief spell with English side Hull City last summer.
Many Zamalek fans hope Zaki will overcome his bothersome injury issues and form a potent partnership with Ahmed ‘Mido' Hossam upon the arrival of new coach Hassan Shehata.
“I believe that Shehata is capable of bringing back Zamalek's glory days. He will continue the good work Hossam Hassan did,” the 28-year-old added.
“Shehata can strengthen our squad and bring in high-profile players for next season.”
Zamalek have not won any title since clinching the Egyptian Cup trophy in 2008. They won the last of their 11 Egyptian Premier League titles in 2004.
