Egypt's left-back Mohamed Abdel-Shafi has been ruled out of the team's upcoming World Cup qualifying games against Chad this month after picking up an injury while playing for his Saudi club. The Egyptian Football Association said on its website that Abdel-Shafi was injured in a Saudi league game with his Jeddah-based club Ahli. It did not specify the kind of the injury. The 30-year-old is Egypt's regular left-back and was part of their 2010 African Cup of Nations winning squad. Egypt coach Hector Cuper called up Smouha's full-back Ayman Ashraf as a replacement, the EFA added. The Pharaohs open their qualifying campaign against Chad away from home on 14 November before hosting the African minnows three days later in the second leg. The winners of the double-legged second-round qualifiers will directly qualify for six four-team groups, whose winners make it to the World Cup in Russia.
