Egypt buys 180,000 tonnes of Russian wheat

Purchase is Egypt's first for a year following a lengthy ban on Russian exports after a severe drought decimated wheat crops last summer

Egypt, the world's largest wheat importer, has bought 180,000 tonnes of Russian wheat for the first time in a year, according to the General Authority for Supply Commodities.
This is Egypt's first purchase from Russia since the latter's return to the world export market on 1 July, following a nearly year-long ban on wheat exports after a severe drought decimated its wheat crop last year.
Supplies are due to ship between 1 and 10 August. There was a price gap of nearly $40 a tonne between Russian and French offers, which put pressure on European wheat futures
