Ahly unhappy with Cairo derby sanctions Ahly disappointed with Cairo derby sanctions imposed by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) following Wednesday's match
Ahly hinted on Friday that they were unfairly treated by the EFA committee following Wednesday's 2-2 draw with arch-rivals Zamalek in a bad-tempered Cairo derby. The competition committee hit Ahly midfielder Hossam Ashour with a three-match ban after he received a red card for elbowing Zamalek's Hani Said in stoppage time. Said himself was given a one-match ban for assaulting Ahly's Mauritanian striker Dominique Da Silva. The Zamalek midfielder was also involved in a dressing-room scuffle with some of his Ahly counterparts. Zamalek coach Hossam Hassan was handed a one-match touchline ban for confronting Ahly coach Manuel Jose after Dominique struck the equalizer with seven minutes remaining. “I'm very surprised by the sanctions which were announced by the competition committee,” Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz said on the club's official website.“A player who committed a foul during the match (Ashour) gets a three-match ban while the player who was fighting in the dressing room (Said) and the coach who assaulted his Ahly counterpart (Hassan) only get one-match bans. "I don't know what was the role of the match observer. How did he fail to see the insults directed at Ahly players on their way to the dressing room and the attempts to assault them? If the observer failed to witness that,” he added sarcastically, “maybe we should hire someone to observe his work.” Ahly are on the verge of winning a seventh consecutive Egyptian Premier League title after the derby draw maintained their five-point advantage over Zamalek, with three matches to go. Zamalek have not won the premier domestic competition since 2004.
