Late comeback attempt by Salah's Roma in vain as they lose 3-2 to BATE Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah wasted two goal-scoring chances as AS Roma slumped to a surprise 3-2 defeat at BATE Borisov in the Champions League on Tuesday
Two goals from full-back Filip Mladenovic powered Belarusian underdog BATE Borisov to a surprise 3-2 win over Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday. BATE were three goals up after 30 minutes, helped by a dose of good fortune in the Group E match. Captain Igor Stasevich headed in the eighth-minute opener after the ball took some helpful deflections and bounces in front of goal, while Mladenovic's first goal four minutes later was a speculative long-range effort which goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny seemed to lose sight of. Mladenovic's second goal needed no luck as the Serbian blasted the ball in off the underside of the crossbar. Roma mounted a comeback in the second half with goals from Gervinho and Vasilis Torosidis, but failed to find an equalizer. Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, who was on target in three straight Serie A games, was not at his best, squandering two goal-scoring chances. He broke clear two minutes before the break but his angled low shot hit the side netting and he blasted over the bar with the goal at his mercy on 73 minutes.
