Martyr's body marched to Tahrir Square after belated hospital release After hours of waiting, the family of Mahmoud Khaled are granted their son's body by Qasr El-Aini Hospital and begin march to Tahrir Square
More than 150 activists who had gathered outside the Qasr El-Aini Hospital, demanding the release of the body of 28 January martyr Mahmoud Khaled, have been granted the body and are currently marching towards Tahrir Square. The 23-year-old passed away early Monday morning after being hospitalised for more than five months. Khaled was injured after a diplomatic car ran him over on 28 January, the infamous “Friday of Anger." The young man's family have been protesting outside the hospital, claiming that the hospital refused to release his body until they agreed to sign a paper stating that he died in a car accident. A funeral was supposed to be held at the Omar Makram Mosque following Monday's afternoon prayer. Afterwards, a march to Tahrir Square was planned. However, those who went to the mosque to attend the ceremony moved later to the hospital in support of the deceased's family demands. Earlier, a representative of Prime Minister Essam Sharaf told those gathered outside Omar Makram Mosque that the delay in the body's release was due to "a matter of paper work."
