Ahly's Jose close to coach the Pharaohs: Reports
The EFA negotiate with Ahly's manager to lead the Egyptian national team, though any deal depends on his club's approval
Published in Ahram Online on 19 - 06 - 2011

Ahly's Portuguese coach, Manuel Jose, has agreed to succeed Hassan Shehata and lead the Egyptian national team, according to media reports.
“I am happy with the offer,” Manuel Jose was quoted as saying by Kora Online TV program, adding: “It's my dream to end my career with the Pharaohs after qualifying with them for the 2014 World Cup.”
The long report, hosted by Mohamed Shabana, claimed that the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) chairman, Samir Zaher, had favoured the appointment of Ittihad El-Shorta tactician Talsat Yussif as Egypt's manager while his deputy, Hany Abou-Reida, preferred promoting Olympic national team coach Hany Ramzy after his impressive efforts.
After long negotiations among the EFA board, Abou-Reida suggested assigning the Olympic coaching stuff to the job under the supervision of a foreign name that would be met favourably by the public, and he picked Jose.
“The deal hasn't been finalised yet because Jose insists that Ahly's president, Hassan Hamdy, must agree first and he doesn't want to demand his departure while the last pointed out that the Portuguese is the one who should ask to leave,” says Shabana, referring to Jose's contract's penalty clause expressing that Hamdy may want to appear loyal to his home during the current circumstances and finally would announce that he prefers Egypt's sake over his club's.
The 65-year-old tactician is unlikely to leave the Red Devils' job, which he has held over three spells since 2001. During this time he has lead the Cairo giants to four African Champions Leagues and five Egyptian League titles, among other trohies.
Former Egypt manager Hassan Shehata resigned from his post last month following a disappointing goalless draw at home to South Africa, which effectively ended Egypt's hopes of defending their three-successive titles in the 2012 African Cup of Nations finals.
