Meteb ready for action with Ahly Ahly coach Jose asks striker Emad Meteb to focus on the league race as he recovers from his long injury and resolves his legal problems
Ahly striker Emad Meteb is in form and ready to lead the Red Devils front line against ENPPI in day-25 of the Egyptian Premier League next Tuesday. Portuguese coach Manuel Jose met with the striker before Wednesday morning's training session and demanded that he stay focused on the green field and forget about his personal issues. The 28-year-old Meteb had been questioned by the Egyptian public prosecution over an alleged shooting incident following a quarrel with a microbus driver who swore at the player's wife, former Miss Egypt Yara Naom, before the issue was resolved with a reconciliation. Worth mentioning is that the popular forward, who missed Tuesday's training session to attend his final college exams, denied last week all claims linking him with the street fight. Meteb has not worn Ahly's jersey since breaking a rib in training after rejoining the club in the January transfer window. As for Ahly's other stars, Wael Gomaa, Ahmed Elsaid and Mohamed Abou-Treika have yet to rejoin their teammates in training as they are still undergoing rehabilitation. “Gomaa will be back to regular training on Thursday after he recovers from a knee strain he sustained during the Petrojet match,” Ahly's medic Walid Abdel-Baky said. Successive six-time title holders Ahly leveled points, 49, with leaders arch-rivals Zamalek, who are competing for their first trophy since 2004.
