One of Egypt's oldest political prisoners released
Nabil El-Maghraby spent 32 years in prison on charges including plotting to kill the late president Sadat

Nabil El-Maghraby, accused of plotting to kill former president Anwar El-Sadat, has been released after spending 31 years in prison.
The 70-year-old El-Maghravy was a member of the military intelligence. He was first arrested in 1979 as part of a police crackdown on political Islamists. He was later accused in 1981 of plotting the assassination of Sadat while in prison and was given a life sentence, or 25 years. He was later sentenced to an extra three years after several prisoners escaped and again for another 25 years for “planning to topple the ruling regime.”
El-Maghraby's picture was often seen held on banners in Tahrir Square by people demanding his release.
