A dehydration medication has killed one child and injured 27 others in Beni Suef, prompting Health Minister Adel Adawy to refer the case to the public prosecutor on Sunday, state news agency MENA reported. The pharmacy's manager was also referred to investigations. Three hospitals in Beni Suef received 27 children who had symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, fever and stomach aches - which means they lost fluids and minerals and needed medication for rehydration - according to a health ministry statement. When they took 'Rehydran' medication, they got seizures after using 50 centimeters cubed of the solution, after which the medication was immediately halted, according to the statement. The seizures were dealt with medically. Seven children's health condition improved, while 10 were transferred to bigger hospitals, of which eight got better. One child died of the remaining two, and the other's case is still unstable, according to the statement. The minister decided that all such medication be seized and a health ministry team will be sent to follow the children's conditions. The remaining medication's solution will be investigation through forensic medicine. Egypt suffers a rundown healthcare sector. Doctors have staged several strikes since 2011 calling for improving health conditions. Their demands included raising the national health budget from 3.5 to 15 percent of the state budget and a higher minimum wage. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/136287.aspx
