Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi said he is confident his side will overtake Egypt at the top of Group G in the African Nations Cup qualifiers when the next round of matches takes place. Both sides started their qualifying campaigns with wins but Egypt lead the group on goal difference. Egypt needed three second-half goals in the space of nine minutes to crush Tanzania 3-0 in Alexandria while Nigeria claimed a 2-0 victory away to Chad. Both sides missed out on the last Nations Cup edition in 2015. Nigeria won the 2013 tournament while Egypt were also absent in 2012 and 2013. "This is just the beginning of the qualifying campaign and I am happy that we started with a win," Keshi was quoted as saying by Nigerian newspaper Vanguard. "The last time we were involved in an opening AFCON qualifying match was against Congo last year and we all remember that it did not end well for us. But now, we have started with a win and I believe that even though the Egyptians are leading us that we can overtake them after the next matches are played. "I know that football is not arithmetic but if we put our house in order and play with determination that we can be the ones setting the pace for others in the group," he added. Egypt will face Chad away from home while Tanzania host Nigeria in their next games in September. The group winners will qualify for next year's Gabon finals.
