Zamalek threaten to withdraw from Egyptian league
The Cairo-based club could pull out of the Premier League if the EFA refuses to call for a replay against Maqassa after Thursday's match ended in controversy due to alleged shoddy referring

Zamalek's interim chairman Galal Ibrahim said the club could withdraw from the Egyptian Premier League if their match against Maqassa, which they lost 1-0 on Thursday, is not replayed.
The Cairo giants are furious after the match was marred by refereeing controversy. They had a penalty claim for an apparent handball by Maqassa striker Hussein Hamdy turned down and a goal wrongfully disallowed after an offside call on either side of the interval.
“The board will release a statement that will include all the refereeing errors that cost us a win over Maqassa,” Ibrahim told Al-Ahram on Friday.
“We will also ask the Egyptian Football Association to replay the match. Otherwise, we may take a decision to withdraw from the league during an emergency board meeting on Sunday.”
Zamalek, who have not won the league since 2004, remain on top of the table on 46 points, ahead of arch-rivals Ahly only on goal difference after the latter bridged the points gap with a 3-0 victory over Haras El-Hodoud on Wednesday.
The league will be briefly stopped as Egypt prepares for a crucial African Cup of Nations qualifier at home to South Africa on 5 June.
