Morocco's striker Mounir El Hamdaoui will miss the crucial 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier with Algeria on Saturday 4 June in Marrakech due to a knee injury, according to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
“The Ajax Amsterdam forward will miss Algeria's game as he suffers from a sudden knee injury. Coach Eric Gerets has decided to recall Raja's striker Yassine Salhi as a replacement,” the FRMF said in a statement on Tuesday.
The absence of the 26-year-old hitman, El Hamdaoui, adds to Belgian coach Gerets' woes as he already will have to do without Mehdi Carcela, Rachid Soulaimani and Ahmed Kantari due to injuries.
Algeria faces stiff competition to snatch the Group D summit, as they share the same points (four) with the other rivals Central African Republic, Tanzania and Morocco.
The Desert Foxes, Algeria's team, are also seeking win to revenge from their hosts, who defeated them 1-0 in Annaba last March in the first leg.
