Cairo governorate has decided to decrease monthly parking fees in the downtown Tahrir garage for local residents. The governorate has reduced monthly fees from LE500 to LE400 for parking a vehicle in the new underground garage for residents of downtown Cairo. It has also brought down monthly parking fees for a vehicle from LE500 to LE350 in cases where there is more than one car in a household. The four-level garage, which is located in front of the Egyptian Museum, was officially opened in January. It aims to help ease downtown Cairo's traffic congestion and since it has started operation authorities have been gradually banning parking in downtown streets. However, concerns have been raised over the parking fees, particularly for those who head to downtown everyday for work - an area where most government offices and ministries are located. The garage has space for 1,700 cars and 24 tourist buses. The governorate has also decided to allow vehicles designed for special needs to park in prohibited in areas where other vehicles are prohibited. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/127012.aspx
