The elections for the board of Egypt's national Journalists Syndicate, due to take place on Friday, have been postponed until 20 March because the general assembly failed to meet the necessary quorum to hold the vote. Only 1,009 out of the 4,000 required members turned out for the vote on Friday, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported According to Egyptian law, a minimum of half the syndicate's members, plus one more, are legally required to attend the vote in order for it to take place. According to the law, only 25 percent of members, plus one more, need to attend the rescheduled poll in order for it to proceed. Board members hold their posts for four years. Six of the 12-seat board places expire every two years, with biannual elections held for the seats and the head position.
