Fathi Sorour sent back to Tora Prison
Former parliamentary speaker Ahmed Fathi Sorour remanded into custody for his suspected role in the violent attack on anti-government protesters in Tahrir known as 'Battle of the Camel'

Ahmed Fathi Srour, Egypt's former parliamentary speaker, has been remanded into custody in Tora Prison for 15 days on suspicion of being involved in the 2 February “Battle of the Camel” attack against protesters in Tahrir Square.
Sorour had been ordered into custody on 20 April, but was at the time under investigation by the Illicit Gains Authority. Earlier today, the authority ordered his release and set bail at LE100,000 (roughly $17,250), after Sorour's lawyer pointed out that the documents they were using to prove he had accumulated his wealth illegally were not accurate.
While being questioned, many families from his old Sayeda Zeinab constituency and former employees of Egypt's dissolved parliament showed up to support him.
He was then transferred back to prison pending investigations into his involvement in the day when government-hired thugs entered Tahrir Square on camels and attacked anti-government protesters with Molotov cocktails, blades and rocks.
Sorour is one of several Egyptian officials brought to court on charges of corruption after the popular revolution that ousted former president Hosni Mubarak and his regime that ruled for 30 years.
