Unknown assailants bombed the Sheikh Zuweid Shrine in North Sinai yesterday evening. The explosion damaged the shrine's dome and the four walls surrounding it. A security source said that the assailants put an explosive device inside the shrine and detonated it remotely. There were no injuries as a result of the explosion. Sheikh Zuweid came to Egypt with Amr Ibn El Ass, the military commander who led the Muslim conquest in Egypt in 640. He died in the city of Sheikh Zuweid in North Sinai, which was then named after him. The bombing of the Sheikh Zuweid Shrine is the last in a series of attacks on shrines across Egypt. Most of the attacks were instigated by Salafists who believe that they are an abomination against Islam.
