Essien awaits warm reception on return to Ghana Ghana midfielder Michael Essien hopes to receive a good reception when he returns to the Black Stars after a one year absence
The Chelsea midfielder says he will be available to represent Ghana and is fit to play against Congo in the African Cup of Nations qualifier set to be played on 5 June in Accra, after recovering from a knee injury. The 29-year-old midfielder sustained the injury during the 2010 African Cup of Nations and has not played for Ghana ever since. Although he returned to play with English Premier League club Chelsea, he said he needed time to take a rest from international commitments with Ghana. "I had a very bad injury and it could have ended my career and I thank God I am back on my feet. I have my form back now and hopefully I will have a good reception coming into the national team again," Essien was quoted as saying on Kickoff.com. "Seriously I have no idea how it will go but the good thing is that I'm ready to come back to the national team and help my country. "I know my break did not down well with certain fans but they have to understand my point of view. The injuries I suffered could have ended my career. It's funny when I heard people were arguing I was not coming to play again. I just stay at home and laugh at it," Essien concluded.
