Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi called Thursday on people to "actively participate" in the parliamentary elections, the last step in a political roadmap set after the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi last year, state news agency MENA reported. Speaking at a celebration of national farmer's day, El-Sisi said Egyptians should choose carefully those who will represent them, as the upcoming parliament will bear significant responsibilities. The parliamentary elections are planned to take place before the end of the year, completing the roadmap after passing a new constitution in 2014 and holding the presidential elections that brought El-Sisi to power. Until an elected parliament arrives, El-Sisi will continue to hold all legislative powers. The president also called on youth to participate and to run for elections. El-Sisi also spoke of future plans for health insurance for farmers and agriculture workers.
