Four men to face Cairo court on charges of forming 'terror cell'
Egyptian prosecutor-general refers four men to criminal court for allegedly creating a terrorist group in Al-Badrashin, Giza
Published in Ahram Online on 13 - 09 - 2014

Egypt's prosecutor-general referred four people to criminal court on Saturday on charges of forming a terrorist cell.
Prosecutor Hisham Barakat said the alleged cell "aimed to disrupt state institutions and violate civilians' freedoms, resist the police force" and also possessed firearms.
According to the prosecution report, investigations revealed that the men "hold terrorist beliefs that regard police and military personnel as infidels and permit attacks on them."
It added that they would also "target Christians and their [churches], destroy public property and threaten civilians".
Three of the defendants, from Al-Badrashin in Giza, are detained pending trial. The fourth is still at large.
Police reportedly notified the prosecution of the group following the forcible dispersal of large pro-Mohamed Morsi protest camps in Cairo in August last year. The dispersal, which left hundreds of civilians dead, sparked a chain of protests and violence nationwide.
The Egyptian government launched a campaign against militant groups following the popular military-led ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July last year.
There has also been a crackdown on political Islamists, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood from which Morsi hails. The group was designated a terrorist organisation and outlawed in December 2013.
Attacks on security and military personnel have also been on the rise, with hundreds killed over the past year in militant attacks.
