Masked gunmen shoot dead a policeman and a civilian Friday in the southern Minya governorate

Unknown assailants on Friday shot dead a policeman in the Egyptian southern governorate of Minya, Ahram Arabic news website reported, the latest in a string of attacks targeting army and police personnel.
Masked gunmen on a motorbike opened fire on an off-duty police sergeant on his way home from work, killing him along with a civilian who was passing near the site of the incident.
Police has cordoned off the area and security patrols were searching for the perpetrators.
Since the army's ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013,Egypt has been hit by an Islamist insurgency, based in the border Sinai Peninsula, which have mainly targeted police and troops.
Islamist militants say their attacks, which have also led to civilian casualties, are in retaliation for a state crackdown on Islamist supporters of Morsi, in which hundreds have been killed and thousands of others jailed.
Last week, elevenpolicemen were killed in a blast near the North Sinai town of Rafah, adjoining the Palestinian Gaza Strip.
