Nigeria coach Keshi blames players for Congo loss Nigeria's coach says his players got complacent after an early goal in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers match Saturday
Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has accused his team's players of concentrating on the show more than scoring during the 3-2 loss to Congo in the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers group stage Saturday. The Super Eagles expectedly took the lead through Celtic defender Efe Ambrose in the 14th minute, only for the visitors to peg them back with two goals from Prince Oniangue and Thievy Bifouma before the break. Just eight minutes into the second half, Congo were awarded a penalty, and Bifouma made no mistake from the spot for his personal double and his side's third of the night. Nigeria, however, had to wait till the last minute of regular time to reduce the arrears, with striker Gbolahan Salami scoring what then proved to be a mere consolation goal. "We didn't play our game. After the goal, we started playing to the gallery and we didn't play with aggression," Nigeria coach Keshi told reporters after the game. For their part, Nigeria's players refused to comment after the game and went directly to the changing room. Nigeria are third in group A of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers behind Congo and leaders South Africa, while Sudan are fourth in the group ranking.
