Art Alert: Factory Girl to screen in Alexandria Mohamed Khan's acclaimed film Factory Girl will be shown at Wekalet Behna in Alexandria on Thursday 21 August
Veteran director Mohamed Khan's latest film Factory Girl is set to screen at Wekalet Behna space in Alexandria on Thursday 21 August, with showings at 6pm and 8pm. There will also be screenings on Monday 25 August at 6pm and 8pm. Factory Girl follows the story of a young woman, Hayam (Yasmeen El-Raees) who works in a textile factory and falls in love with her boss (Hany Adel). The film pays special homage to silver screen icon Soad Hosny. The film was commercially released in Egypt in March last year and grossed over one million Egyptian pounds - a hefty sum given that it was not released in the country's official cinema season. It is Khan's twenty-fourth film, but his first release in seven years. Khan, 71, is one of Egypt's most prominent directors. His comes from a generation of neo-realist filmmakers that represent one of the hallmarks of Egyptian cinema. Three of his films — El-Harreef (The Street Player, 1984), Zawgat Ragol Mohem (The Wife of an Important Man, 1987) and Ahlam Hind wa Camilia (Dreams of Hind and Camilia, 1988) — were included among the "100 Greatest Arab Films" of the Dubai International Film Festival.
