All Egyptians on Libyan-Tunisian border to return within 48 hours: FM
Foreign minister Sameh Shoukri held a press conference at the Cairo airport upon his return from Tunisia to address plight of stranded Egyptians on Libyan-Tunisian border
Published in Ahram Online on 05 - 08 - 2014

All Egyptians fleeing Libya and stuck at the Tunisian border will return to Egypt within 48 hours assured Egyptian foreign minister Sameh Shoukri at a press conference held on Tuesday at Cairo airport.
According to Al-Ahram's Arabic news website, Shoukri returned from Tunisia on Tuesday with dozens of the Egyptians who were stranded in there. He added that in the coming two days the number of flights will be increased with efforts from both Libya and Tunisia.
Around 2000 Egyptians remain stranded, he explained.
On Monday, Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi sent five thousand tonnes of food supplies to Egyptians stranded on the Libyan-Tunisian border.
Tensions have been high on the Tunisian-Libyan border after two Egyptians were killed last week when Libyan guards opened fire on hundreds of Egyptians who were trying to enter Tunisia to escape the ongoing unrest in Libya.
Tunisian authorities have said many of the Egyptians do not have visas or required documents.
The International Organisation for Migration estimates that 330,000 to 1.5 million Egyptians worked in Libya up until the period of current unrest, which began following the NATO-backed uprising that toppled Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The number of Egyptian expats has since dwindled, although it is not clear how many Egyptians remain in the country.
