Holidays help to boost tourism in Egypt
Hotel occupancy rates have risen in the country's Red Sea tourist destinations as the holiday seasons at home and abroad converge

The undersecretary for the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, Ahmed Attia, has revealed that occupancy rates in hotels in the Red sea resorts of Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada and Marsa Alam have risen to more than 51 per cent. This he put down to Egyptians spending the spring holiday in the coastal towns.
Attia explained that the holidays coincided with the Easter holidays in Europe and America, resulting in an increase in the levels of foreign tourism. Since mid-April, some hotels in Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada have seen occupancy rates of 100 per cent.
The undersecretary added that the ministry has intensified its inspections of tourist facilities such as hotels, restaurants, shops antiquity sites and diving centres during the holidays to ensure that the service delivered to tourists and Egyptians is of the necessary quality.
Attia also stressed that the ministry's operations room is working 24 hours a day and that there its hotline has received 19,654 complaints which it is determined to resolve.
