A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck off Suez governorate late Friday, an earthquake expert at Helwan Observatory stated. Ahmed Hosni told Reuters' Aswat Masriya the quake's epicentre was Hagool Valley, 100 kilometres east of Cairo and 30 kilometres from Suez governorate. The tremor was at a depth of 13 kilometres and was felt both in Cairo and Suez, the head of Egypt's Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research, Hatem Ouda, told state news agency MENA. Ouda said Hagool Valley is a zone of tectonic activity. However, its quakes are known to be medium in strength, spaced and limited. No injures or damage in infrastructure was reported.
