Nigeria's Taiwo on the verge of AC Milan move After six years with the team, Nigeria and Marseille full back Taye Taiwo wants a change and is centimetres away from wearing AC Milan's jersey in the summer
With his contract expiring in June, Marseille Nigerian defender Taye Taiwo has reportedly reached an agreement to join AC Milan, according to Italian sports magazine Il Corriere dello Sport. The 26 year-old international player has made it clear that he will leave the French League 1 to seek a new challenge. “Taye has played with us for six years and we have made him more offers, but he has chosen to play in another League and to earn a little more,” Marseille director of sport Jose Anigo was quoted as saying during an interview by Radio Monte Carlo on Friday. “Taiwo is in contact with Milan. I don't know if he will sign for them, but it's a good arrangement for him,” he added. Milan are still chasing a full back despite signing Didac Vila and Urby Emanuelson in the January transfer window. Taiwo seems to be a perfect choice, as he has been constantly delivering a top performance all throughout the past few seasons at the Velodrome, including winning the domestic treble (League, Cup and League Cup) in 2010. Taiwo was part of the Nigerian team during the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship and led the Super Eagles to the final of the tournament only to lose to Argentina 2-1. He has been awarded the Bronze ball as the third best player of the tournament. He was also named CAF young player of the year when he played in the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Egypt and since then became a key figure in the Nigerian squad.
